Our Vision Statement

Central Austin Cohousing is dedicated to creating an intentional neighborhood in urban Austin. Our primary goal is to live in a supportive, interactive and interdependent community of people. Within the context of that community, we aspire to include a diversity of people who support a resource-efficient lifestyle that is affordable, economically viable, environmentally low-impact, aesthetic, and creative. We meet our goals through a consensus process.
 
We define diversity as having people of different lifestages, lifestyles, and perspectives: families with and without children, singles, seniors. We have worked very hard to keep prices of the homes as low as possible so as to have the richness of a mixed-income community.

Policies

Our policies are the result of consensus decisions by the community over a number of years. There were two kinds of decisions we needed to make before move-in: (1) issues that had to go into our legal condominium documents, and (2) “make or break” issues at least one member flagged as crucial for their final decision on joining the community. Many other decisions we have purposely left to be made by the households who actually move in.
